Wellness Works celebrated Memorial Day with their 1st Annual Memorial Day Program held on Saturday, May 29, 2010. The event was covered in a Glendale News Press article by Veronica Rocha.

"GLENDALE — A well-preserved black-and-white photograph of Maj. Arthur Lynch was delicately pinned Saturday on a cloth wall created in honor of war veterans. Kathy Lynch decorated her father's photograph with his World War II and Korean War badges for Saturday's inaugural Veterans' Memorial Program at Wellness Works, a holistic medicine center. The center provides free therapy services to active-duty service members, veterans and their family, who are stressed and suffering. 'He was a great dad, but I didn't know him . . . and I didn't realize how much he was suffering," said Kathy Lynch, the center's director. "Nobody helped people from World War I and World War II, even the Korean War, with the post-traumatic stress and the reentry to society.'

After talking to other war veteran families and learning from their experiences, Kathy Lynch has grown to better understand her father's behavior. Arthur Lynch's photograph was one of more than a dozen pictures of deceased war veterans pinned on the Wall of Remembrance at the center. 'By my honoring this, I feel a great healing has taken place,' Kathy Lynch said.

Along with posting photographs, friends and families wrote their loved ones' names on pieces of paper that were going to be taken Sunday to the Arlington West in Santa Monica."

Wellness Works' veterans program has recently been featured on the front page of the Glendale News Press in an article by Melanie Hicken.

"While serving in the Vietnam War, Glendale resident Gary Griffith saw his best friend die in a fiery plane crash. More than 40 years later, Griffith has found a way to help him move past that painful memory. For the past 2 1/2 years, he has visited holistic health center Wellness Works, where he has tried acupuncture and meditation. 'I jokingly call it my place of Zen,' he said. 'I can come here to decompress.' Griffith and his wife were among several dozen people who visited the center Saturday for a free clinic dedicated to military veterans and their families."

Wellness Works has recently been featured on the front of the Business section of local newspaper, the Glendale News Press in the article by Michael J. Arvizu.

"Wellness Works Holistic Health Center, at 540 W. Broadway in Glendale is a lesson in contrasts. While cars zoom back and forth along the historic street, enter Wellness Works and you're immediately greeted by a warm, quiet home filled with books and music. Farther into the house is a neatly manicured garden. Tended by Sejabou, who goes by only his first name, the garden is meant as an oasis. Wellness Works specializes in self-healing and offers a variety of healing therapies, including acupuncture, body talk, hypnotherapy, meditation, massage, reflexology and yoga. And the center rents out its rear studio for other workshops and classes including retreats. "

The Wellness Works team raised $8,384.00 for our center during this year’s AIDS WALK LA campaign.

Members of our Board of Directors, practitioners, and some of our student volunteers participated. Our team walkers met at Jack’s for a pre-walk breakfast and post walk rest stop; and took pictures in our new Wellness Works’ tea shirts. We would like to thank everyone who helped us in this fundraising effort, especially Molly Hagan, Lois Ramer, and Elen Lauper who led the charge.

Next year, weare going to have information available for both online fundraising as well as materials for those who prefer the personal one on one approach with sponsor forms. We plan on starting our fund raising in August next year.

California Veterans Affairs 2nd Annual Conference for Women and Minorities held at the Sheraton Gateway hotel on September 11th and 12th provided Wellness Works with the opportunity to voluntarily give back to our women veterans and to show our appreciation for their service to our country.

Twenty volunteers traveled at their own expense for the two day conference. We set up our tables and created a mini-clinic experience to welcome all those veterans who wished to receive a gift of healing touch. Participants could choose from a wonderful array of energy balancing therapies.

Acupressure, hand-massage, chair massage, meridian fork-tuning, reiki, quantum energy, pranic healing, cranial sacral therapy, finger holds, EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique) provided the women a holistic way to address the many stresses of their lives.

What we found the most rewarding were the tears of gratitude from the women as they were told our gift of service was freely given in recognition and appreciation for what they have given.

We are grateful to the staff of the California Veterans Affairs for Women and Minorities for their invitation to meet and serve these valiant women.
